Martin Quintinilla

Martin Quintanilla's story mirrors the resilience and determination embodied by many Camp Catanese campers and alumni. Martin's journey with Camp Catanese began in 8th grade, where his connection with Mr. Cat in the classroom laid the foundation for a transformative experience. Over the course of the past five years, Martin found a support system in his peers and mentors at Camp Catanese and has now become an integral part of our camp family! According to Martin, despite his initial nervousness when entering this new community, he discovered a loving atmosphere where counselors provided unwavering support and encouragement, challenging him to dream big and pursue his collegiate aspirations!
Growing up amidst adversity, Martin's childhood was surrounded by negative influences, where violence and drugs were incredibly present throughout his community. Despite these surroundings, Martin refused to ever give up on his dreams, using these hardships as fuel to forge a brighter future. With a steadfast focus on education and a commitment to setting a positive example for his six siblings, Martin emerged as an incredible leader and role model within his family and community.
Throughout his journey, Martin leaned on his incredible potential and the encouragement of his Camp Catanese family, especially during moments of personal loss and academic challenges. From navigating the complexities of FAFSA applications and staying on track with school to being a young man balancing many different responsibilities, Martin found reassurance and support in the guidance of the volunteer staff at camp. When reflecting on a moment at camp where he relied on one of his counselors during a difficult time in his life, Martin noted, “That’s when I realized camp was more than just about college; the counselors really do care about you. At Camp Cat, they treat you like family.”
Inspired by the ambition and drive of his peers and mentors in the Camp Catanese community, Martin said his mindset shifted over the years and his determination to pursue higher education is now stronger than ever! We are so proud to share that Martin will be attending Arizona State University this Fall and will be majoring in Computer Science! Martin inspires each and every one of us, and we are honored to be a part of his story!
